I Wasn’t Expecting A Lung Infection After Hysterectomy – Lia’s Story
Hi Everyone. I had a total hysterectomy in Feb 2014. My surgeon was brilliant, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about him, in my eyes a top surgeon deffo. Yes, I had a lot of pain but I definitely feel a lot better for having this op. However, I do have underlying lung problems so with that and my op I did expect to feel tired and I was.
I went to my doctors with what I thought was a bad chest infection. I was given steroids and antibiotics but they didn’t work. I was asked to bring in a sputum sample which I did. The results came back that I had a very rare bacteria that you can only catch in hospital through hospital equipment which I had obviously picked up in the Manchester hospital that I had my op in.
Unfortunately there is only one type of tablet that is strong enough to kill this bacteria but the side affects aren’t good and I’m really worried about taking them. My doctor has not been very helpful! I don’t think she has ever had a patient with this bacteria. The person that tested my sample said I needed to have a lung scan and go to Wythenshawe lung clinic which I’m under anyway.
The NHS phoned me and told me I had an appointment for end of September. I told my doctor I don’t want to wait that long she said she would sort something out but up to now she hasn’t. This bacteria that is supposed to be very rare to catch, well not that rare as I’ve caught it. Unfortunately because I don’t seem to be getting any help I’ve now been forced to take matters into my own hands. I feel tired,’ ill, and depressed.
