Endometrial ablation and resection is an alternative treatment for heavy bleeding and the removal of fibroids and polyps. Various studies have shown a success rate of around 85% in reducing or eliminating bleeding. However, this procedure does cause infertility as it involves the removal of the womb lining (the endometrium).

One of the advantages of the technique is that it can be performed under local anaesthetic, takes about an hour and most women are able to resume normal activities in two to five days.
