Hysterectomy Breaks Down Another Barrier as it Hits the London Stage

On August 20th 2012 yet another landmark event will take place as the subject of Hysterectomy breaks down am major barrier when it hit’s the London stage for the first time. One in Five is a verbatim theatre piece directed by Jessica Blaxland Ashby that highlights the impact and effects of a hysterectomy on a woman by exploring their stories of loss, change, desire, relationships and changing identity through movement.

The show will be taking place at the Old Red Lion Theatre at 418 St John Street
London, EC1V 4NJ on Monday 20th August. The nearest tube station is Angel and I’ll be visiting to see and I’d love to see as many others who can joining me on the night.

The piece is based entirely on stories from women who volunteered a couple of months ago, who have all had a hysterectomy and as such these are stories of humour and heartbreak that no-one else could tell.

The piece is conducted via movement which, when you think about it, is the only way that the story of a woman’s experience of hysterectomy could be told.

I’m going to see it and if you would like to come along too, tickets cost £10 and are avaiable to buy online or by calling the Box Office on 0844 477 1000. You can find out more on the Red Lion Theatre website at: oldredliontheatre.co.uk/monday-nights-and-visiting-companies.htm.
