Age doesn’t count – Elizabeth’s ovarian cysts story

My story is still very young, although I am a 70+ young lady, I was diagnosed with bilateral ovarian cysts via a scan a few weeks ago, to confirm the diagnosis my consultant also advised an MRI scan be performed.

On completion of investigations (fortunately non- malignant) my Consultant consulted with his colleagues and in agreement the conclusion is for surgery, hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo – orrpherectomy via a vertical incision.

To my suprise I was placed on an urgent NHS waiting list with an appointment for surgery within 2 weeks, that date is 6th May early in the morning.

The pre op care and attention given to me by both the medical and nursing staff, from discussing surgery to signing consent to a full health screening, and guidance with diet and post op care has been more than 110%

During the last few weeks life has been in turmoil with taking pain killers for abdominal pain wearing clothes that are comfortable anything from a size 14 to 18 (due to the abdominal swelling from the cyst). With friends and family to support me and the information I have gained through the Hysterectomy Association I couldn’t ask for more.
