5 Days Post Op Hysterectomy – Sue’s Story

I am 5 days post op hysterectomy and my name is Sue. I’m 46 and had a total abdominal hysterectomy, ovaries and tubes removed on Thursday. I had been suffering with fibroids for years and it wasn’t till March this year I had another scan which revealed so many fibroids they couldn’t make out where one started & one finished.

One measured 27cm. I was told that it was a traumatic surgery. My uterus was the size of a 24 week pregnancy. I lost 1.5 litres of blood. Consequently I am now on Iron tablets.

I was sent home three days post-op which personally being an ex nurse I still can’t get my head round. It used to be at least 10 days when I did Gynae.

Progress….!! I ended up in A&E last PM with a UTI. Checked wound this AM & looks rather full of pus. Great eh!The pain of surgery I can cope with but the wind pain has me in tears sometimes.

Anyhow the reason I’m writing this is because can you go straight into menapouse as early as five days post op? I’m having terrible flushes where the sweat literally drips off my face and my hair is soaked. I’m also experiencing a very, very, very dry mouth. I have no appetite because of it. It’s driving me nuts. Please can anyone suggest anything to help.
